A Small Collection, Carefully Chosen
Hijau Residences was founded in 2018 by a pair of Penang-born property professionals who noticed something missing in the local rental landscape: properties that were not just presentable, but genuinely restful. Most listings prioritised amenity checklists over atmosphere. Most management companies moved quickly and thought little about the experience of the people staying.
We set out to do something quieter and more attentive. We chose three properties — each in a distinct setting along Penang's northern coast — and committed to maintaining them to a standard that we would personally want to stay in. We recruited a small team who shared the same disposition: unhurried, knowledgeable, and genuinely warm.
Today, Hijau Residences remains a small portfolio by choice. We believe that attention is finite, and we would rather give all of it to three well-chosen properties than spread it thinly across many.

Every person on the Hijau Residences team has a genuine connection to Penang — its coastline, its food culture, and its particular rhythm of life.
Nurul Rashidah
Co-Founder & Director
A Penang native with a background in hospitality design, Nurul oversees property selection and the overall guest experience across all three residences.
Azmi Harun
Co-Founder & Operations
Azmi manages property maintenance, vendor relationships, and coordinates the resident staff at the hillside and cliff properties — quietly ensuring everything works.
Lim Wei Xin
Guest Relations
Wei Xin handles all guest communication and enquiries. A former tour guide with an encyclopaedic knowledge of Penang's eating scene and cultural sites.
Our Standards
How We Maintain What We Offer
Each property is maintained against a consistent set of standards that we review regularly with our team and update based on guest feedback.
Property Condition Audits
Each property undergoes a thorough condition review before every new tenancy. Furniture, fixtures, appliances, and outdoor areas are assessed and attended to as needed.
Safety Compliance
All properties comply with local fire safety, pool safety, and structural integrity standards. Regular checks are carried out by qualified inspectors registered with the relevant Penang authorities.
Vetted Resident Staff
All resident staff — housekeepers, gardeners, chefs, and drivers — are personally interviewed and reference-checked by our operations team before placement at any property.
Guest Data Privacy
Guest information is handled in accordance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). We do not share personal details with third parties beyond what is necessary for service delivery.
Environmental Responsibility
All properties use energy-efficient appliances where possible and the hillside bungalow's garden is maintained using composting and natural pest management to protect the surrounding green space.
Open Communication
We maintain a direct line of communication with every guest throughout their stay. Our team responds to messages within two business hours during office days and is reachable for urgent matters at any time.
Our Expertise
Penang's Northern Coast, Known From the Inside
Tanjung Bungah occupies a particular stretch of Penang's coastline — quieter than Batu Ferringhi, closer to the city than the hill stations, and yet genuinely distinct from both. The neighbourhood retains a residential character that much of Penang's tourism corridor has long since shed. The hawker centres serve the same families that they have for decades. The morning beach walk sees the same fishermen. There is a continuity here that is worth preserving and worth experiencing.
Hijau Residences works exclusively within this area because we know it well. We understand which properties sit in the morning shadow, which hillside roads flood in heavy rain, and which vendors take care of their buildings rather than their listing photos. That local knowledge shapes every decision we make about which properties to include and how to present them honestly.
For guests arriving from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, or further afield, we are often the first local contact — and we take that position seriously. We are happy to share knowledge about the neighbourhood freely, whether or not a booking follows from the conversation.
